Scuba Diving on the Costa Brava

Some of the best diving spots in Spain can be found on the Costa Brava. The rugged coastline offers a wealth of fascinating sites that divers of any level of experience and training will enjoy.

Water temperatures vary from 24 degrees C during the summer to 13 degrees C during the winter, but visitors can scuba dive in the area throughout the year.

The Costa Brava has many surprises in store for the scuba diving enthusiast, including the unforgettable Medas Islands, famous for their underwater submarine nature reserves.  These protected territories include uninhabited islands that are famous for their rich fauna and flora, especially underwater.  The underwater views are crystal clear, allowing visitors to gaze at beautiful corals found in every colour imaginable.  When diving at Massa d’Or a diver can often see thousands of silvery barracuda.  Harmless five-foot groupers can often be seen following divers around when diving at the Medas Islands.

There are a number of dive centres situated along the coastline in this area, with daily excursions during the summer time.  Diving equipment can be rented out from diving centres all year round.  It is relatively inexpensive to dive at the Costa Brava compared to the UK and the USA. Single boat dives that include weights and 15 litre tanks cost up to €25 if a diver has their own equipment. If a wetsuit, fins, masks and BCD are needed a diver will probably pay around €50, making the Costa Brava a great location for the first time diver.

Solmar Villas offer a collection of beautiful holiday villas in the Costa Brava for anyone planning a scuba diving holiday.
